Internship in Nonfiction Writing

Internships are an important step in your personal and professional development. An internship gives you the chance to put the academic skills you have developed into practice in the workplace. For many students, this is the first time they have the chance to get experience in a field where they want to build a career. It’s worth applying even if you don’t have any direct experience yet!

_________

English 493: Internship in Nonfiction Writing

English majors and minors who have taken ENGL 280 have the opportunity to enroll in ENGL 493. While completing their internships (8 hours per week), students attend a once-a-week seminar that supports their professional development and maximizes the opportunities at their internships. Prior to registration, students should search for an internship with a writing focus.

Those interested in ENGL 493 should contact Professional Writing Internship Coordinator, Dr. Jeffrey Kessler (jckessle@uic.edu). He will advise students throughout the application process.

Interns work on unique projects, write original material, and learn from professionals in their field. Internships offer students the opportunity to network with writers and editors who may offer assistance with future employment.
